Vivo Y53 Unboxing, First Impressions

Vivo brought its latest budget smartphone, the Y53 to the Philippines last month when we spotted it available for sale in one of the country’s biggest computer store chain. While it may be new, it’s not exactly a successor to the already available Vivo Y55 with its slightly lower specifications. Let’s have our first look at the Vivo Y53.

Inside the retail box of the Y53 you get the following:

  • Earphones
  • Travel charger (5V=1A)
  • Micro-USB cable
  • Quick Start Guide
  • SIM Ejector

Included accessories are basic but they get the job done. We do find the charger’s design to be outdated and bulky though despite it being a regular charger with no fast-charging feat.

The device doesn’t look that difference from the Y55 with its utilitarian candy bar design with a fair amount of bezels surround the 5.2-inch qHD IPS display. Above the display are the 5MP selfie camera, the earpiece, and a couple of sensors. Below are three capacitive buttons for navigation.

On the left, we’ve got the dual SIM and microSD card tray while the physical buttons for power and volume are situated on the right-hand side of the phone.

The top is pretty plain with just the 3.5mm headphone port sitting on the far right side.

The bottom end of the Y53 has the microphone, micro-USB port, and the loudspeaker. Unlike other smartphone designs, though, the handset doesn’t sport symmetrically drilled holes.

At the back, we have a familiar Vivo layout and design with the 8MP primary camera and its LED flash situated at the top left corner and the Vivo logo shining in the middle. The handset’s casing is plastic with no touch of cold premium metal.

Specs-wise, inside we have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and paired with the Adreno 308 GPU. RAM is ample at 2GB while the expandable internal storage is 16GB. It’s got a 2500mAh sealed battery and runs FunTouch OS 3.0 by Vivo that’s based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

With its specs and features, the Vivo Y53 has a price tag of Php6,990.

Vivo Y53 specs:
