Xiaomi Mi 9 scores 107 points on DxOMark

After Xiaomi’s launch of their newest flagship smartphone, the Mi 9, DxOMark released its camera benchmark score for the device showing a massive improvement over its predecessor.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 got an overall score of 107 points which topples its own Mi 8 with only 99 points. The breakdown of segments show that it received a 112 score in the photo section with the following pros and cons:

Pros:

  • GGenerally accurate and repeatable target exposure
  • Noise under control in bright light and under indoor lighting
  • Fast and accurate autofocus
  • Generally accurate white balance
  • Excellent flash results
  • Good subject isolation and blur gradient in bokeh mode
  • Good detail when using the zoom function

Cons:

  • Slightly limited dynamic range
  • Loss of fine detail
  • Unnatural tone compression effects in bright areas of high-contrast shots
  • Luminance noise when zooming especially in a low-light condition

As for the video, the Mi 9 scored 99 points with the following pros and cons:

Pros

  • Excellent detail in bright light and when shooting indoors
  • Efficient stabilization in most situations
  • Low noise outdoors and indoors
  • Responsive and repeatable AF performance
  • Accurate white balance and good color rendering
  • Good target exposure even in low light

Cons

  • Some ghosting and dropped frames
  • Noise in low-light scenes, especially on moving subjects
  • Occasional focus instabilities when shooting indoors

The Xiaomi Mi 9 jumps on to the top 10 spots in DxOMark overtaking the Apple iPhone XS Max and taking its place as the 3rd best overall smartphone camera in the world.
