Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s hands-on, first impressions

Around March, Xiaomi introduced their newest flagship smartphone that sports a Snapdragon 845 processor with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, The Mi Mix 2s. Today, we’ll be checking that phone out, let’s start!

The Mi Mix 2s follows the unconventional design pattern of its flagship predecessor. It looks solid, premium, and aesthetically pleasing at first glance due to the almost bezel-less design except for the bottom chin that houses the front camera.

At the front is the 5.99-inch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The 5MP front camera shooter is located at the lower right corner. The Mi Mix 2s makes use of on-screen navigation to keep the bottom chin as thin as possible. We find it weird to have a front camera placement at the bottom since there are some applications that do not support screen rotation when taking photos.

At the left is the lone SIM card tray that can accommodate two dual nano-SIM cards at the same time. Sadly, there is no dedicated microSD card included as well as the capability to expand its storage.

On the opposite side, are the usual volume rocker and power button reside. We didn’t have a hard time pressing them as they have good tactility.

The top part of the Mi Mix 2S contains a lone noise-canceling microphone for calls.

At the bottom, the USB-Type C port is in between the main microphone and loudspeaker, a typical setup for most smartphones nowadays.

Finally, the dual 12MP rear cameras with LED flash and the fingerprint scanner are located at the back of the device. Xiaomi has changed the position of the shooters compared to its predecessor.

In the hands, the Mi Mix 2S feels light but solid. It’s also slim enough to be easily placed in our pockets. One thing that we dislike about it, is its glass back panel that easily attracts smudges and fingerprint marks.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s in the Philippines is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor paired with Adreno’s 630 GPU, 6GB RAM, and 64GB/128GB internal storage. It is priced at Php27,990 (64GB) and Php29,990 (128GB) respectively.

  1. it is ceramic not glass be sure to be accurate about details.

  2. Guys… it has a ceramic back and aluminum fram. but for the Mi Mix 2 special edition its a unibody ceramic phone

  3. Where did you get the prices , are official? When will be available in the Mi store PH?

  4. What’s funny is a ton of manufacturers aped this design, even other smaller chinese brands. Xiaomi did it first! Not Apple or Samsung!
