Your nude selfies can remain after Android factory reset

Avast has revealed that nudes and other intimate photos have been found on Android phones that users think they’ve already made clean, but it seems that the factory wipe function just stops your phone from showing where the data is stored – therefore, data is still retrievable by tools.

According to the source, it is suggested that the devices vulnerable to the security flaw are the phones running software older than Android 4.0. If you’re quite paranoid about the situation, than you should encrypt your data before doing the factory reset, so that just in case someone retrieves your data, it is unreadable.

  1. Ugh. Just because you delete or format your hard drive does not mean the data is completely gone. The data can still be recovered.

Factory resets usually do not do at least three rounds of data wiping. Newer iterations of the OS does the job.

  2. Miss Call you just repeated whats on the article. duh!

  3. @Milfoy I think Miss Call’s point is its not limited to Android but all OS.

Its better to encrypt your sensitive data in any devices.

  4. Physically destroy your old phone’s circuits after buying a new gadget. 100% effective

    • Or go with nokia lumia phones. They have data encryption systems trusted by US corporations. I’ve been collecting noynoy and kris aquino’s crying pictures for internet memes and I’m still a free man.

    • Somebody caught me, guess I have to request for hospital arrest.

    • you guys think you’re funny huh.

    • Replying to your own comment is a sin!

  5. I realized this when I was flashing my phone with a new rom. settings of other app still remained the same after flashing. and when I backed up a new rom. I saw on the logs. an app I installed a year ago has a data being backed up.

  6. definitely true… na laman kulang din to na di pala completely madedelete yung file or pic khit naka factory reset kana….nakita ko yung mga old pic ko na nadelete nung may hinanap ako sa root folder ko..yun tumambag sakin mga lumang pics na naka format not as .img or jpg..but nung eh view ko as image nakikita ko yung pic..pati mga old file ko naka store parin pala.
