Got an email newsletter from one WHT just now:
Last month, Microsoft launched Microsoft Live Microsoft Live Office Beta for beta testing. Live Office is not an online version of MS Office Suite, but instead a series of tools for small businesses that combine web hosting, design tools, email accounts and groupware features. Google on the other hand launched Google Pages which offers free web pages with an easy-to-use home page creator and 100mb of space. Google Page Creator is focused on making it easy to create static web pages, similar in concept to Geocities and Tripod.
These news have stirred a lot of discussion on WebHostingTalk. Is Microsoft and Google getting into the hosting business? Knowing these two companies as we do, we’re more inclined to ask, “Why not?”. Well, whatever they decide to come up with, we are confident that you will do better! How about picking up some marketing tips from Andreas Gauger, Chairman of 1&1 Internet? Or hiring some new tech support employees? Or even start offering Ruby on Rails hosting? There’s much more you can do to take your hosting business to the next level…
I didn’t put up the links because it requires authentication from subscriber emails.
So, they’re a little concerned that big-time players like Microsoft/Google seems to be invading the hosting industry. (especially the big DCs like 1&1, ThePlanet, etc.)
Who wouldn’t be concerned with that?
