The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is partnering with fintech giant GCash. Their collaboration aims to allow Filipinos to apply for both a national ID and a fully-verified GCash account in one go.

In detail, this project is a collaboration between the PSA, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and select pilot partners like GCash.
For reference, this will occur in underserved localities through the co-location strategy PhilSys-On-Wheels. Further, this approach aims to make financial services more accessible, as per National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Undersecretary Dennis Mapa.
Asst. Sec. Rosalinda Bautista also said that the services would provide better access to other formal financial services. Those with the GCash app should find this more convenient with more access to savings, payments, and loans.
Bautista added that she believes their work with GCash will not only achieve immediate goals, but also serve as a model for future partnerships with other BSP-supervised financial institutions.
G-Xchange Inc. President and CEO Oscar Enrico Reyes Jr. also said “This co-location initiative with the PSA aligns with our shared goal of extending financial inclusion to underserved communities by providing a venue to register for a national ID and open a GCash account at the same time”.
