BIR extends ITR filing deadline to May 15

The Bureau of Internal Revenue has just announced that it will be extending the ITR filing deadline to May 15.

Previously, the agency stated that the April 15 deadline remains, while payment of amended ITRs can be done until June 15. According to SunStar, in a Revenue Memorandum Circular dated March 18, 2020, BIR has now approved a one-month extension for tax filing and payments. Penalties will be waived as well.

Despite the May 15 extended deadline, the BIR is still encouraging taxpayers to file within the deadline or earlier than that, provided that they can do so. The BIR has also mentioned that electronic filing facilities are available and that individuals can pay their taxes via online payment platforms.
