Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announces the new Bluetooth 5.0 which promises four times the range and with double the speed of the current version.
The updated wireless connectivity could arrive in devices as early as September and is created in part to enhance the experience of users with devices connected to the Internet of Things.
SIG Executive Director Mark Powell states that “increasing operation range will enable connections to IoT devices that extend far beyond the walls of a typical home, while increasing speed supports faster data transfers and software updates for devices.” It’s also been reported that connectionless data transfers could be Bluetooth 5.0’s most important feature.
It’s also been reported that connectionless data transfers could be Bluetooth 5.0’s most important feature. The source listed down some instances where it would come in handy: pinpointing certain things in the middle of a wide selection or finding a specific restaurant without the use of Wi-Fi or data connection.
These, among others, are what we could be looking forward to when the Bluetooth 5.0 officially makes it to devices late this year or early next year.
