Cashalo confirms data breach, NPC investigates

Cashalo, in a Facebook post, confirmed a data breach in its system. The National Privacy Commission (NPC) has already received the reports and has started its investigation.

Cashalo, an online lending platform, announced that their IT security team discovered a potential data security incident involving its database archive. The incident resulted in unauthorized access to a database that contained some personal data of Cashalo customers. The company said that it has taken immediate actions to safeguard its users and reported the incident to the NPC.

Cashalo also said that its encryption implementation ensured that no customer accounts or passwords were compromised. The company apologizes for the incident and sent emails to users affected to inform them of the next steps.

The NPC’s OIC-Chief, Atty. Michael R. Santos, in an earlier Facebook post, said that the incident has already come to their attention and has already started the investigation. Details were not provided to avoid jeopardizing the investigation process.
