The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) is reminding Filipinos to stay alert online as cyber threats continue to evolve during the Christmas season. With more people shopping online, sending digital payments, and using social media, scammers are taking advantage by spreading AI-generated deepfakes, fake investment offers, and scam calls or messages posing as trusted individuals.
CICC acting Executive Director Undersecretary Aboy Paraiso said they are now working on real-time detection of deepfake content to help remove harmful posts faster. He also warned about new scam tools like malicious charging cables, text-sending devices, and tools that target e-wallets.
To report suspicious activity, the public may call the 1326 anti-scam hotline, which responds within 24 hours. The hotline has recorded around 16,000 cybercrime reports from 2024 to 2025.
As the holidays continue, CICC advises everyone to verify information, avoid clicking unknown links, and stay cautious of offers that seem too good to be true.
