The Department of Education (DepEd) is currently validating the report on the alleged hacking of some bank accounts of public school teachers, according to a report from Manila Bulletin (MB).
This move comes after the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) said that it had received reports from its members “who lost varying amounts of money” since last week. TDC claimed that the funds were allegedly transferred to other bank/e-wallets from their Landbank payroll accounts.
The amount stolen from individual teachers so far ranges from PHP 26,000USD 443INR 37,560EUR 422CNY 3,227 to PHP 121,000USD 2,062INR 174,797EUR 1,964CNY 15,016. TDC Chair Benjo Basas said they have initially informed some DepEd officials to seek help.
“We are currently validating it now with our field offices,” DepEd Undersecretary for Finance Annalyn Sevilla told the Manila Bulletin in a Viber message.
Meanwhile, the TDC chair mentioned that Landbank should be held accountable for the incident. The coalition is also seeking the help of DepEd to help get the money back to its members.
Furthermore, the TDC also asks teachers from the private sector to report to the authorities if they ever experience such.
