Twitter CEO Elon Musk has just announced that he plans to step down as the social media site’s top executive.
Musk announced his decision to resign on his official Twitter account:
This was after Musk had earlier conducted a poll asking his followers whether he should step down as the head of Twitter. As of writing, the poll has garnered 17,502,391 votes, with the “Yes” vote currently having 57.5% while “No” has 42.5% of the votes.
Musk says that he will step down as soon as he finds someone “foolish enough to take the job.” Once a new CEO is installed, Musk says he will transition to just running the software and servers teams of the company.
Musk’s tenure as Twitter CEO has been filled with big changes and controversy. It was under his leadership that the social media platform started to implement an USD $8 subscription for their verified badge and the banning of alternative social media platforms on the site.
