Key officials of two companies that offer online discount purchases face a Php36USD 0.61INR 52EUR 0.58CNY 4-million case filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) over alleged tax evasion, according to news reports yesterday.
According to the BIR Commissioner Kim Henares, Moonline Inc., engaged in the sale of products and services through the online website CashCashPinoy which includes apparel, restaurants, health and fitness products and travel packages, has owed the BIR Php132.51USD 2INR 191EUR 2CNY 16 Million since 2010.
Similar tax evasion raps have been filed to another company, Ensogo Philippines, for failing to remit their taxes, despite being able to file its Income Tax Return (ITR) through the electronic Filing and Payment System (eFPS) from 2011 to 2014.
Among those named in the tax evasion case filed by the BIR are Frederic Levy and Bernadeth Levy, Moonline Inc. president and treasurer, respectively, and Ensogo president Krit Srivorakul and treasurer Xelynne de Lara.
Moonline has denied the allegations, according to a statement sent to ABS-CBN News Online.
“Our company has always paid the proper taxes as any law abiding business in the Philippines should. In addition to this, Since 2011, Moonline is audited every year by the firm KPMG. We have not been officially notified of any complaints against us for alleged failure to pay the correct taxes. Should there be additional requirements from the Bureau of Internal Revenue, we are ready to comply with them.”
