Garmin unveils Fenix 7 Pro, Epix Pro (Gen 2) rugged smartwatches

Garmin has launched two new series of rugged smartwatches bearing the ‘Pro’ moniker: the Fenix 7 Pro and the Epix 2 Pro series both having Sapphire editions.

The newly released smartwatches come equipped with a range of innovative training metrics, such as an Endurance Score, weather map overlays, and a built-in, hands-free LED flashlight.

Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Series

The Garmin Fenix 7 Pro series has three sizes: 42mm, 47mm, and 51mm. All sizes have a memory-in-pixel (MIP) display that supports solar charging. Additionally, they have built-in LED flashlights with variable intensities, a red safety light, and strobe mode.

The next-generation MIP display has been redesigned, with improved pixels, backlight, and solar panel. As a result, it provides better indoor readability and increased brightness and power efficiency, without compromising the MIP display’s exceptional sunlight performance.

Fenix 7 Pro Series

The heart rate sensor has sport-specific algorithms and enhanced optical sensors, making it easier to understand the body’s response to exercise.

The smartwatch offers an endurance score that measures how easy it is to sustain prolonged efforts. It also has a hill score that measures running strength on steep climbs and running endurance on long ascents.

Additional features include weather map overlays that help users view upcoming weather conditions and relief shading for quick topographic map reading. The smartwatch also has preloaded activities to help users stay active.

Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2)

The Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) series has the same three case sizes (42mm, 47mm, and 51mm) as the Fenix, all with AMOLED displays. The smartwatch also has a built-in LED flashlight with variable intensities and strobe mode to provide greater awareness while training in the dark.

Epix 2 Pro Series

In addition, the Red Shift Mode changes display colors to shades of red, helping users acclimate to darker conditions and reduce sleep cycle disturbance.

Users can stay active with dozens of new, preloaded activities, including soccer, basketball, racquet sports, horseback riding, and more. The smartwatch also offers advanced training features such as hill score and endurance score, providing users with a better understanding of their fitness levels.

The optimized heart rate sensor offers enhanced multisport performance tracking, and new weather map overlays make it easier to view upcoming weather conditions. Relief shading makes topographic maps more quickly readable for glanceable awareness.

Price and availability

The Garmin Fenix 7 Pro and the Epix Pro (Gen 2) starts at USD 799.99 and USD 899.99, respectively.

As of writing, the Garmin Philippines website has not yet posted any details about the new iterations. Stay tuned for updates!
