Globe, Shell sign partnership to provide WiFi hotspots

Globe and Shell has inked a partnership agreement to install new cell sites that will become Go WiFi hotspots in 14 gas stations along major roads.

The two companies already identified the 14 target sites of the GoWiFi facilities, most of which are located along major routes and major areas of convergence across the country. Shell is also eyeing for GCash to offer cashless payments in its stores.

This is part of Globe’s endeavor to widen the number of cell sites and reach it has. It’s  a process towards densification of sites in urban areas. We’ve been working very closely with Shell group to try to get this to fruition. – Ernest Cu, Globe President & CEO

Globe said it allotted a 2018 capital expenditure of $850 million, bulk of which will be used in preparation for the entry of a third telco player.
