Globe Telecom plans to deploy more than 400 wireless laser links across the Philippines over the next three years as part of efforts to upgrade its network infrastructure.

The project will be carried out in partnership with Transcelestial. The technology uses laser beams to transmit data through the atmosphere, allowing operators to deliver fiber-like capacity without installing traditional fiber-optic cables.
Globe said the rollout aims to support the expansion of 5G and small-cell networks, particularly in locations where laying fiber cables is challenging. These include coastal areas, mountainous regions, and disaster-prone zones.
Initial deployments have already been tested in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, as well as at the Philippine Arena, where the technology was used during large-scale events to handle high data demand.
The partnership between Globe and Transcelestial began in August 2025. The telco is also evaluating longer-distance laser communication systems that can transmit data across distances of up to 15 kilometers.
Kickstart Ventures, Globe’s venture capital arm, is an investor in Transcelestial. Meanwhile, Globe subsidiary Asticom will serve as the local engineering partner for the deployment.
The initiative is part of Globe’s broader strategy to expand connectivity infrastructure and improve network capacity across the country.
