Google will soon release a file transfer of its own that is similar to Apple’s AirDrop called Nearby Sharing.
According to an XDA report, it was originally called Fast Share but was renamed to Nearby Sharing. It works similarly to Apple’s AirDrop feature but for Android. It’s not the only one out there though as companies like Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo are already working on a cross-device file transfer solution. Samsung was also recently reported to release a similar feature called Quick Share for upcoming Galaxy devices.
XDA’s Mishaal Rahman was able to test the feature by transferring images between Pixel devices. He said that the feature should support devices with Google Mobile Services but it’s not ready for prime time as it still needs improvements. You can watch the demo below.
