Apple has released iOS 26.4 beta 1 to developers, introducing updates across Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Messages, security features, and system apps. The update is currently limited to developer beta testers, with a public beta expected in the coming weeks. A wider release is anticipated this spring.

One of the key additions is Playlist Playground in Apple Music. The feature lets users generate playlists using text prompts, automatically suggesting 25 songs based on a theme, mood, or idea. Apple Music also adds a “Concerts Near You” section and redesigned album and playlist pages with full-page artwork.

In Apple Podcasts, iOS 26.4 introduces native video podcast support powered by HTTP Live Streaming (HLS). Users can switch between video and audio playback, download videos for offline viewing, and see improved integration with recommendations. Dynamic video ads are also supported.

Security updates include end-to-end encryption (E2EE) testing for RCS messages in the Messages app. For now, encryption is limited to iPhone-to-iPhone RCS testing, with cross-platform support expected in a future update. Messages with encryption display a lock icon in the conversation interface.

Stolen Device Protection is now enabled by default. The feature requires biometric authentication for sensitive actions and can impose a one-hour delay for certain changes when away from trusted locations.

Other changes include:
- New Ambient Music widget for Home and Lock Screen
- Redesigned Wallpaper Gallery and Apple Watch face gallery
- Unified Apple Account hub across supported apps
- New “Urgent” Smart List in Reminders
- Updated App Store navigation and search placement
- iCloud web settings overhaul
- Freeform Creator Studio support
- EU-only Notification Forwarding for third-party wearables
- EU-only Proximity Pairing for third-party accessories
There are currently no new emoji in beta 1, though code references suggest they may appear in a future release.
