iOS 27 is not just about new features. Apple went deep on fundamentals this cycle, and the numbers will tell.

App launches are up to 30% faster on iPhone and iPad. Apple preloads key app data before you tap, so apps are ready when you need them. This covers third-party apps too. New photos appear in your library up to 70% faster. AirDrop transfers hit up to 80% faster speeds. File transfers from iPad to external drives are up to five times faster, putting it on par with Finder on Mac.
The CPU scheduler also got a major upgrade. Apple optimized it for newer iPhones and then brought it all the way back to iPhone 11. Yes, older iPhones get a real performance bump from a software update, not just the newest models. iOS 27 supports all the same devices as iOS 26, from iPhone 11 onward.

Networking got smarter too. iPhone is now better at knowing when to stay on Wi-Fi and when to switch to cellular. No more manually toggling off that coffee shop network. Large file sends in Messages no longer block your conversation flow, and a per-message send indicator shows exactly what has been delivered.
Search got rebuilt from the ground up across Spotlight, Photos, and Mail with a new index that is more stable, more comprehensive, and faster at surfacing new content. Mail’s top hits ranking is also improved.
