While Apple is one of the largest technology companies in the world and definitely revolutionized the smartphone movement with the very first iPhone, it’s no secret that they take their sweet time with implementing new features. More often than not, the company waits for other brands to release first or even second iterations – then collects all of the findings before including it in their own product.
The upcoming Apple iPhone Fold (able) is no different.
With Samsung continuing to improve its Z Fold line, and other brands just two to three generations behind, it can be said that Apple is late to the party. Many Apple loyalists will tell you that this is nothing to worry about. After all, the brand usually comes up with a more polished result than its rivals.
So what exactly are they rumored to be focusing on with their upcoming foldable?
Firstly, it looks like they’ll be using tried-and-tested Samsung OLED panels. This comes as no surprise since the Korean giant has continued to innovate on the folding display technology as its pioneer. The primary point of innovation is the crease – since the goal is to make it as close to invisible as possible, to prevent obstruction in real-world use.

The inner display is rumored to be measuring approximately 7.8-inches, built much like an Apple iPad Mini. Colors should be bright and punchy thanks to OLED technology. Meanwhile, the outer display will come in at around 5.5-inches. Considering Apple’s unrelenting dedication to making devices that are easy-to-use, the dimensions for the Apple iPhone Foldable will surely be backed by diligent user research and testing.
The following area of focus is in the hinge. When comparing traditional slab devices to foldables, a common worry among potential buyers is the durability of the hinge. This is, after all, still a mechanical component that can cause such an expensive device to fail prematurely. We’ve personally seen too many cases of worn ribbon cables and failing examples to turn a blind eye to this reality.

Apple seems to be committed to creating a hinge design that can be marketed as “more durable than anything consumers have ever seen.” It may be crafted of certain materials like liquid metal, or engineered differently from anything currently on the market as of today.
Not much else yet is known about the upcoming foldable Apple iPhone, other than the high chance of it coming with an under-display selfie camera. There is also a high probability that it will not come with FaceID, but rather a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for unlock security.
We’ll let you know if we discover more.
