Some say ultrawide curved monitors are a gimmick, while others got curious, gave it a try, and now swear by them. They definitely add another dimension of immersion to one’s setup. The previous largest scaled in at 57 inches, but the latest HKC Shield C83U60 has completely flipped that record on its head.
The HKC Shield C83U60 was just unveiled at COMPUTEX and comes in at 83.4 inches. Yep, that’s almost 30 inches more than the previous record-holder. This absolute mammoth of an ultrawide curved monitor packs a native resolution of 11520×2160, or 12K for short. Doing the math gives you an approximation of around 140-150 PPI, an identical experience to a 32-inch 4K monitor.
Due to its size, it sports a more aggressive 1000R curvature to ensure that you can still benefit from the curve even if it’s at the edge of your peripheral vision. Our calculations estimate that a user would need to sit 1-1.5 meters away from the display to maximize its full potential.
The only technical weakness here is that refresh rate is limited to 60Hz, likely due to hardware preservation for the processor that needs to run this. Connectivity must be with PCs with HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 2.1 support. Ideally, a high-end GPU and at least 32GB of RAM would help push that full 12K out without any graphical issues.
You can use this for productivity, keeping multiple tabs open, watching movies, games, and a myriad of other purposes. As seen in the COMPUTEX demo, this elevates the realism of racing simulators to another level.
How would you use this monitor, given the chance?
