Instagram gets AR camera effects and video chat

During Facebook’s F8 2018 conference, the social media giant has announced that Instagram will get new features like AR Camera Effects and Video Chat.

The AR camera platform was already announced last year, but Facebook is now bringing it to Instagram. With the help of AR Studio, creators will be able to design interactive camera experiences, including face filters and world effects, for their followers on Instagram.

Video Chat, on the other hand, will be available on Instagram Direct and support one-on-one and group conversations. To start a video chat, simply tap the new camera icon at the top of a Direct thread. You can also minimize the video and continue the chat while doing other things on Instagram.

Instagram will also get a redesigned Explore that is now organized into topic channels so you can browse across your interests and go deeper on any area you’d like.

Lastly, Instagram will make it easier for you share your new favorite song on Spotify to action shots from GoPro straight to Stories. Just tap the share button in the Spotify or GoPro app and your content is pulled directly from the Instagram camera. From there you can edit and add to your story or send it via Direct.

Video chat and the new Explore are both testing now and will soon be rolling out globally.
