Kona is Hyundai’s first sub-compact SUV

Hyundai has unveiled a new SUV joining its own Tucson and Santa Fe vehicles but with a small footprint.

The Hyundai Kona is the company’s latest little SUV as it has an overall length of about 164 inches, width of 70.9 inches and a height of 61 inches. It’s got a bold design with a “Cascading Grille” front with a mesh pattern.

There will be gasoline and diesel engines variants of the Kona depending on the market. The base offering in the U.S. will have a 2.0L four-cylinder engine which can provide 147 horsepower and a zero-to-hundred km/h time of around 10 seconds. It’s got a six-speed automatic transmission. Other configurations are also available including a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine.

Four-wheel drive is optional for Kona but several driving modes like Sport, Normal, and Eco will be standard. It’s also equipped with advanced technological features including a lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and a driver drowsiness monitor.

And lastly, its infotainment system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The display is up to 8 inches and will also feature wireless charging for mobile devices.

The 2018 Hyundai Kona will go on sale this month in South Korea. North America and Europe will be in the loop after. No specifics yet if Hyundai’s latest offering is coming to the Philippines.
