Valve has recently posted a video of the Steam Deck being partially disassembled on its YouTube channel.
Valve has uploaded a 5-minute video that shows the process of replacing the system’s thumbsticks and SSD. In the video, the host says that this is somewhat a how-to video but at the same time recommends everyone not to do it. Hence, the purpose of the video is also to show what’s inside the Steam Deck.
Check out the video:
The Steam Deck features a 7-inch 1280 x 800 LCD touchscreen that runs a refresh rate of 60Hz. Under the hood, it is equipped with a custom AMD APU processor, a Zen 2 CPU, an RDNA 2 GPU, has 16GB of LPDDR 5 RAM, and has storage options of 64GB eMMC, 256GB NVMe SSD, and 512GB NVMe SSD. In addition, all models include a high-speed microSD card slot for more storage.
Further, the video explains how easy it can be to replace a thumbstick. The company mentioned that its thumbsticks are custom-made for the Steam Deck. What’s more, the host also explains how to replace the M.2 SSD but noting that the device’s SSD is specifically chosen for the Steam Deck. Thus, users must not try to upgrade it as it may not fit properly.
Valve also noted that they do not recommend replacing parts yourself, but they want to share relevant information about Steam Deck’s components.
“Even though it’s your PC, or will be, once you’ve received your Steam Deck, and you have every right to open it up and do what you want, we at Valve really don’t recommend that you ever open it up,” the host said in the video.
The Steam Deck is set to ship in December 2021. To know more about Steam Deck, head over to this link.
