Messenger.com to shut down in April 2026

Listen to article

Meta has announced that Messenger.com will no longer support messaging starting April 2026. The Messenger desktop app is also being discontinued.

Once Messenger.com is shut down, users accessing the site on a computer will be automatically redirected to facebook.com/messages. Messaging will continue through that web interface or via the Messenger mobile app.

Users who rely on Messenger without a Facebook account can still access their conversations through the Messenger mobile app. No changes were announced for mobile access.

Meta also said that chat history can be restored on any supported platform using a user’s PIN.

The move effectively consolidates Messenger’s web experience under the main Facebook website, removing the standalone Messenger.com portal and desktop application.
