myPAL Roam: Unlimited data roaming for Php390 a day

Listen to article

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is now offering mobile WiFi hotspots with international data roaming called myPAL Roam. This basically a rental service that includes free use of the WiFi device with an international SIM that supports data roaming to 87 countries (US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, entire South East Asia).

The service offers unlimited data for only Php390 per day. To get one, just visit their booking page and request for a unit (up to 20 units), schedule a start date and end date as well as the country of destination. We’re not sure if it can support roaming in multiple countries in a single trip (we hope it does).

You can choose how you receive or return the device — free shipping within Metro Manila (Php150 nationwide), pick it up and drop it off at PAL Boutique Outlets or get it Onboard (Php50).

Smart has a similar service (Smart World Traveler WiFi) and costs Php390 but is limited to 1GB per day (throttled to 2G speeds after). Globe does not have one but if you are a postpaid subscriber, just activate it when abroad and you get unlimited data roaming for Php599 a day. The myPAL Roam looks like the best option among them.

You can check it out here 24 (this was offered to me since I’m a Mabuhay Miles member and I have a scheduled flight in a couple of weeks).

In what country did you try this myPAL Roam? Did it have a fast connection? Does it have a long battery life?

I hope charging starts and renews every 24 hours just like Globe’s unlike Smart postpaid that gets renewed at 12am no matter what time you started.

Based on the booking order, it looks like 12 to 12, not 24 hours. This is because the registration is done ahead of time for specific dates and specific countries.

Do you need to have your flight booked with PAL in order to avail of this service?

Not sure but based on the Booking page, not necessary.
