Announced via Nintendo Europe’s X account, the Nintendo Switch is getting a Joy-Con charging stand later this year. The Switch has been around for almost a decade now, so Nintendo pulling the trigger on this announcement was surprising.
Prior to this, third-party manufacturers have provided accessories to cater to charging Joy-Cons. Of course, some if not most are partnered with Nintendo. However, Nintendo launching their own charging station this year must’ve been unexpected considering the console’s life cycle is winding down.
The product itself charges via a USB Type-C port. The station is compatible with a Switch dock, charging plugs, and Nintendo’s wireless NES gamepads. One station can charge up to four (4) controllers at once.
For readers that often play games like Smash Bros. or Mario Party, this should be a treat though. A dedicated charging station makes it possible to charge a handful of Joy-Cons at once. In comparison to plugging two Joy-Cons into the side of the Switch, this is a welcome addition for the year.
Nintendo’s two-way Joy-Con charging stand is set to launch on October 17, 2024. It’s also noteworthy that it shares its launch date with Super Mario Party Jamboree, complementing the upcoming party game.
