Nothing Ear (open) unveiled

The Nothing Ear (open) has been unveiled 14 as the brand’s first open-ear wireless earbuds. As the name suggests, it has an open-ear, semi-transparent design with wraparound ear hooks.

Products from Nothing have always been made to balance design language and functionality. The new buds have speakers resting outside the ears with a three-point balance system with silicone ear hooks.

Plus, the buds have a new sound seal system with directional speakers to keep sound from leaking. While the buds are built to offer comfort, readers should note that the buds don’t offer active noise cancellation (ANC).

Diving deeper, the Nothing Ear (open) has 14.2 titanium-coated audio drivers. For connectivity, these pair over Bluetooth 5.3 and support dual-device pairing. Each earbud even packs dual microphones with Clear Voice 3.0.

Additionally, users can leverage the buds with pinch controls for media playback, volume adjustments, and call management. Moving on, each bud weighs 8.1 grams. Both the buds and the case have an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance as well.

The buds are compatible with the Nothing X app like its previous iterations. Users can use this to customize gesture controls, share EQ profiles, and update firmware for the buds.

The buds also have Find My support, low latency mode for gaming, and ChatGPT integrated. However, I should note that the latter feature requires a Nothing phone to work.

Each bud packs a 64mAh battery that offers 8 hours of audio playback. As for the case, it packs a 635mAh battery. This can extend the buds’ activity for up to 30 hours and charges via USB Type-C.

The Nothing Ear (open) comes with a single White colorway. It will retail for USD 149 (~PHP 8.3K). Pre-orders from Nothing have already started today, with open sales set for October 1st, 2024. We’ll update readers should the buds find their way to the Philippines.
