Smart has just clinched an award from internet testing and analysis leader OOKLA. The telco was awarded the “Most Reliable 5G Mobile Operator” in the Philippines by scoring the highest scores in 5G consistency and 5G availability.

This is based on Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence data in Q2 2021. In addition, the company notes that 5G Consistency is calculated based on the percentage of a provider’s users that meet minimum download and upload speeds, while 5G Availability identifies the network whose users spend the highest percentage of their time on 5G.

Smart topped 5G Consistency with a score of 89.78% versus Globe’s 78.15%. Smart also led in 5G Availability with a score of 14.67% versus Globe’s 11.86%.

“Citations like this only attest to the superior customer experience we provide our subscribers as the 5G pioneer in the Philippines. These also inspire us to keep getting better and faster so our customers can live the Giga Life and pursue their passions in our increasingly digitized world,” said Jane J. Basas, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business at Smart.

Since Smart launched the country’s first 5G commercial service last year, the telco has fired up over 4,000 5G sites in more than 3,000 areas across the country.

Being cited as the mot reliable in only the early years of them providing the service is impressive, I must say. I know there are still a lot to work on but this just proves that they are successful in providing superior experience to their customers.

Still hear and see negative comments about their service. But between those and the numbers from an analytics firm, I’d believe the latter.

Smart isn’t perfect, but a survey from Ookla is a lot more definitive than the random complaints we hear.
