A new web app called Rush PH now allows commuters in Metro Manila to check real-time arrival estimates for LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 trains. The app runs on mobile browsers and is designed to work smoothly even on low-end smartphones.
Rush PH uses crowd-sourced data from commuters who report train sightings. These reports are then processed to calculate estimated arrival times at each station. The system currently operates with around 81 percent accuracy. To ensure data reliability, users are required to log in with an email before submitting reports.
The app was created by Filipino developer Joshua Bumanlag, a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. Inspired by efficient train systems in other countries such as Singapore and Thailand, Bumanlag designed Rush PH to offer a simple and free solution to the lack of timely updates in the local train system.
Rush PH is available at rush-ph.com. Future plans for the app include adding support for carousel jeepneys, the Philippine National Railways, and provincial routes. Bumanlag also intends to make the project open-source so that other developers can contribute to its growth and improvement.
