After years of leaks, teasers, and delays, Spotify has finally flipped the switch on lossless audio streaming and the best part? It’s available at no extra cost for all Premium subscribers.

What is Spotify Lossless?
Dubbed Spotify Lossless, the new tier streams music in FLAC format at up to 24-bit / 44.1kHz, delivering richer detail and clarity than the platform’s standard “high quality” option. This brings Spotify in line with competitors like Apple Music and Tidal, who have long offered hi-res audio.
A small “Lossless” badge now appears on the Now Playing screen when a track is streaming in the higher fidelity format.
How to Enable It
The feature doesn’t turn on automatically, you’ll need to manually enable it:
- Tap your profile icon
- Head to Settings & Privacy
- Select Media Quality
- Toggle Lossless audio for WiFi, cellular, or downloads
Things to Keep in Mind
- Wired headphones or speakers are recommended—Bluetooth connections still compress the signal, so you won’t get the full lossless experience on most wireless earbuds.
- Songs may take longer to start, since larger FLAC files require extra buffering.
- Data consumption is higher, Spotify provides usage estimates so you can decide whether to stick with lossless on mobile data or keep it WiFi-only.
Device Compatibility
Spotify Lossless works on mobile, desktop, tablets, and select Spotify Connect devices from brands like Bose, Samsung, Sony, and Sennheiser. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices is rolling out next month.
Availability
The rollout began this week across key markets like the US, UK, Australia, Japan, Germany, and Sweden, with plans to expand to 50+ countries by the end of October. In the Philippines, Premium users (Php169/month) will automatically get the feature once it arrives.
And unlike the early rumors, Spotify Lossless is not a limited-time trial or a separate paid add-on, it’s a permanent upgrade to Premium.
