Starmobile brings i-mobile IQX with 18MP+8MP camera

A Starmobile rep has just confirmed that they are bringing the i-mobile IQX Jellybean smartphone to the Philippines this Wednesday. The phone will come with an 18-megapixel rear camera and another 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

The i-mobile IQX sports a 4.7-inch (1280 x 720, 312ppi) HD LCD with Corning Gorilla Glass. It has an 18 megapixel AF BSI rear camera with dual-LED flash, an 8 megapixel AF BSI front-facing, 4GB of internal storage, support for 3G and HSPA networks, and dual-SIM capabilities. Running under the hood is a MediaTek MT6589 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, and Android 4.2 Jellybean.

Starmobile is just referring to it as Starmobile K at the moment.

We earlier reported the i-mobile IQX being available in Thailand this month and we’re spot on that either Starmobile or Cherry Mobile will rebrand and bring it to the Philippines. Check out more about it here.

We’ll be covering the Starmobile event this Wednesday where they said they are announcing a total of 11 smartphones and tablets this week.

Update: I have been told by Starmobile that while it is very similar to the IQX in hardware specs, it’s going to be a newer model so expect something a bit better. We’re going to compare this Starmobile K with the i-mobile IQX once it becomes official.

Update 2: We’ve been told that the official name is the Starmobile Knight.

    • this is more of a cameraphone not a smartphone like pureview 808 =))

this is more of a cameraphone not a smartphone like pureview 808 =))”

      ROTFLMAO!!!

Please. 41MP PureView lossless digital zoom + superpixels vs. 12.7 MP BSI (Bull Sh*t Imaging) + 80% lossy compression + lossy digital zoom (lossy cropping with image interpolation).

      Doesn’t even come close. =))

  1. 18mp rear camera??? 8mp front??? There’s what we can call overkill, and clearly this is one of those. Unless you take pictures for billboards or skype with people who own those TV’s that have skype, this features are just too impractical (most DSLR’s don’t even reach that resolution, so I don’t see the need for phones to be equipped with such). Also, pictures uploaded to FB or other social networks will always be scaled down (though FB offers the option to view the original resolution), so 18mp pix will be wasted again. But other than the ridiculous cameras, the specs of this phone are quite good, especially the Android 4.2 OS.

    • First time to see a complaint on an improved camera mp \m/

    • @nini: oh thanks for that info. yeah good marketing ploy there. knowing Filipinos, many will think this is a better phone because of the “18MP” camera (btw, I can’t understand anything from that site haha).

@overkill: An increase in resolution does not mean a better camera. It will depend on a lot of factors, like the type of lens and sensors, shutter speed, etc. You buy a smartphone not just for the camera, but for the overall features of the unit. Unless you plan on becoming a professional photographer using a smartphone (goodluck with that), an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP (or even VGA) front camera should already suffice for basic photography needs. You can just download camera apps for better features and improvements.

  2. Makes me regret buying my myphone a919i after reading this. :)))

    • no need to regret kung nakuha mo ng 7900 , if 9590 , well , pede mong iyakan :)

  3. nako ang SM pa ang nka kuha nito. I wish it was CM who got this gem para di masyadong mahal.

    • Kinda disappointed by this news too, knowing STARMOBILE, Sigurado gagamitin nila yung Corning Glass at 18MP para mai-todo nila yung presyo…

”First in the local market, hence priced at a (whopping) Php (insert insane amount).00 ”

  4. Nice Competition is here. Cm vs startmobile. I wonder what myphone is cooking.???

  5. wow! 11 smartphones. :D well Starmobile please consult CM first for the pricing xD any way this is a good sign. very tight competition i wonder who’s next to launch another smartphone army. (if you know what i mean ) :D

  6. 4Gb internal memory ? Man JB does not allow apps to be installed on the external mem..

  7. daming nag pa pop out na new phones hahah kaya mahirap mamili ng bibilin na phone puro good specs :D

  8. Oh My Goooolay, nauna na ang Starmobile!

Expect ko ba na maging affordable ito? Hindeeee

Starmobile + Affordable aren’t synonymous to each other

    • pag di kayang bumili, manahimik nalang! puro dakdak nalang na mura nito, mura dun, e kung gusto nilang kumita, pakitain mo sila! para namang ang laking isyu eh. chos!

  9. Hmmm..Oo nga mukhang madaya and i-Mobile dito (based on the link that was given by Nini) …blurry na yung 18MP pag 100 percent na yung image…and to quote the author via Google Translate

”13 MP camera is used to take the picture. And usd Software interpolation to increase the number of pixels into the image Into the 18 MP image size”

  10. how about the iocean x7 Youth?

    A quadcore Full HD (1080p) 5″ phone?

Who will ever bring this handset here at the Philippines?

    • I think Jiayu G4 is better. You can order both Ioceaon and Jiayu G4 at etotalk safely.. they have good reputation in selling outside China..

    • tama, guys if you wanna spend around 12k for a good china phone get the jiayu g4. better all around specs than this and it comes with a 3000mah battery

    • yup, purchased my jiayu g3 the same way. based on my experience, etotalk and fastcardtech are reliable online stores to buy china phones. you can check the tcp forums, for more info about purchasing the items.

  11. Panu ba yan guys? I’m expecting this phone to be overpriced and getting my wallet to zero cash.

  12. I love it! More power to you Starmobile and Mama Vice! :D

  13. Starmobile got this phone? Oh sh!t!
Cherry Mobile, please save us from Starmobile’s “tubong lugaw” pricing!

  14. Nakupo..! starmobile na nakakuha nito i-mobile IQX..bye-bye dream phone..expect the price to be higher than their current flagship phone which is the SM-Diamond priced at 9,990…haay..i’ll stick with my OHD muna..sayang..! by the way CM’s highest priced phone right now is only 8,999 the OHD quad-core..

  16. Don’t worry guys, CM will bring this phone also here inthe Phl, expect a much lower price kaya hold your money.

    • i don’t think they can. china ODMs have contractual obligations to one rebrander, in this case starmobile, to be the only sole distributor of a specific unit.

  18. Sa mga marurunong sa DSLR…. eh good thing yung 18mp kc khit madilim yung kukunan mo eh pwede i-compensate by increasing exposure & ISO values and to recompensate pixelization is to maximize its 18mp feature… kaya advantage yung specs but the bad thing lang eh starmobile ang nakapagrebrand, better kong CM para low price….

    • READ the article that was linked by Nini

This is a FAKE 18MP camera…software interpolation lang ang ginamit with some blurring tricks para hindi ma-obvious yung pixellation pag nag 100 percent view ka

Kung Native 13MP lang yung sensor it means hanggang dun na talaga, any fancy software trick won’t help to improve the detail kasi ang base resolution niya ay 13MP talaga.

  19. 12k php for a china rebranded phone… any takers of this overpriced smartphone? lols

  23. This phone is available in Thailand and we have sent it to some websites to review.

Where else outside Thailand is it available ?

    Thank you.

  24. I do consider all of the ideas you have introduced for your post.
They are very convincing and can certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are very
brief for beginners. May you please prolong them a bit
from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.
