Ugreen NASync Series in the works, funding exceeds goal

Announced at CES 2024, the Ugreen NASync Series 15 is here, and has exceeded their Kickstarter funding goals.

Ugreen is an electronic device and accessory company that is entering the market for Network Attached Storage (NAS).

To start their project, the company opened a Kickstarter fundraising goal of only USD 20,000. And now, the company has 3.7 million USD pledged at the time of writing.

For context, NAS is a type of storage that provides access to files over a computer network. This is to alleviate the hassle of plugging drives directly into a specific computer for uploads or downloads.

It’s similar to a personal cloud storage option, but without monthly fees and the need for a physical NAS drive. It is ideal for individuals, teams, or businesses for collaboratively accessing their files from multiple devices and locations.

Prior to the NASync Series, Synology has been the usual choice for NAS. But judging from the funding Ugreen has received, people are very excited about their product.

The funding still has more than a month to go, ending on May 9th. As for the product itself, the NASync Series consists of six products in three ranges.

The bottom of the lineup are three options for personal and home use. The DXP2800, DXP4800, and DXP4800 Plus are two- and four-bay drives, respectively.

These allow storage capacities ranging from 52-96 terabytes (TB), and are ideal for backing up photos and videos daily. They also have easy sharing options and media streaming access.

Next, the DX480T Plus is an all-flash option with 16TB of storage. It offers a portable yet high-speed SSD read and write capabilities. With a smaller form factor, this is best used by creatives and media professionals.

At the top of the lineup, we have the DX6800 Pro and DXP8800 Plus. These are six- and eight-bay drives, respectively.

These offer 140-184TB of storage, with larger setups geared towards business solutions. Among its potential uses for massive storage space are media libraries, creative archives, and more.

These also feature powerful processors and fast ports for multitasking and collaboration. To give readers context, its power is estimated to be able to handle 36 million 3MB images or 124,000 1.5GB movies.

The product specs differ between the three tiers, with all being impressive. The three top-tier devices feature the 12th Gen Intel Core i5 processor and all six NASync devices offer users 8GB DDR5 memory (expandable up to 64GB).

Additionally, the NASync Series has two M.2 NVMe slots, working well with SSDs to allow fast caching, and quick read and write speeds. However, SSDs are sold separately.

But even moving past hardware, the NASync Series will also offer a mobile app for file accessibility. And last but not least, users get professional data security, excellent for teams working with sensitive data.

Complete specs and purchasing details are available on Ugreen’s Kickstarter 190, with shipping expected to commence at the end of Q2 this year.

But as always, we’ll let readers know of the Ugreen NASync Series’ availability in the Philippines.
