AMD unveils handheld-focused Ryzen Z1 series chips

AMD has just unveiled two new chips built for handheld gaming called the Ryzen Z1 and the Z1 Extreme.

Ryzen Z1

The Ryzen Z1 series processors will be AMD’s go-to chips for handheld Windows-based PC Gaming. The Z1 series will run on AMD’s Zen 4 processor technology and their RDNA 3 graphics.

The Z1 is slated to have six cores with 12 threads, four RDNA 3 Compute Units, 22 MBs of cash, and a 15-30W TDP. Meanwhile, the Z1 Extreme will have eight cores and 16 threads, 12 RDNA 3 Compute Units, 24 MBs of cache, and a 15-30W TDP.

It’s looking like ASUS’ upcoming handheld, the ROG Ally, will be one of the first devices to carry the high-performance processor, as the handheld is heavily featured on the Z1 series’ online announcement.
