UPDATE (April 3, 2023): Asus confirmed that the ROG Ally is a real product. Those interested may sign up for notification through Best Buy or their official website. Once signed up, they’ll notify through your email about the availability of ROG Ally pre-orders.

Asus has done their part on April Fools again, but this time, they might actually be ‘cooking’ something real with their own concept of a handheld gaming PC.

Rog Ally 2 (custom)

On April 1st, Asus’ ROG Global took to Twitter a three-minute promotional video of ROG Ally where it discussed some key specs of the console.

Asus claims that it had collaborated with AMD for customized Ryzen APU, flaunting it as the “fastest” one from AMD yet.

It sounds much like the Aerith SoC underneath Valve’s Steam Deck, but Asus didn’t mention a name for its so-called custom-design Ryzen APU.

Other key features include a Full HD gaming, a dual-fan thermal solution—which keeps it ridiculously “quiet”—and supports a mobile eGPU should you want to dock the console and play games through bigger display monitors.

Rog Ally Egpu (custom)

The console runs on Windows 11, and interestingly, Asus also put up a Best Buy link where potential customers can sign-up for pre-orders.

The introduction of Asus ROG Ally during April Fools’ Day may only be the company’s marketing strategy, but the concept is feasible.

They also make gaming-centric ROG phones with the latest being the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate. Thus, Asus expanding to handheld PC gaming surely poses a competition against the popular Steam Deck.
