Asus Transformer Prime becomes official, starts at $499

Asus has finally announced their 2nd-generation tablet, the Asus Transformer Prime. It’s thinner, lighter and 5 times faster than the old one — boasting the first quad-core processor in a tablet.

Asus Transformer Prime specs:
10.1″ Super IPS+ display @ 1280×800 pixels
Gorilla Glass
NVidia Tegra 3 1.4GHz quad-core processor
32GB and 64GB internal storage
1GB DDR2 RAM
1.2MP front-facing camera
8MP autofocus camera with LED flash
3.5mm mic & headphone combo jack
micro HDMI port
micro SD card slot
USB 2.0 port (dock)
SD Card slot (dock)
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 2.1 w/ EDR
Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb

Asus promises an Android Ice Cream Sandwich update over-the-air once it become available (which is most probably coming next year).

The tablet weighs 1.18 pounds, including the dock. While the original Asus Transformer was in the 0.5-inch thick, the Transformer Prime shaved it down to 0.33″. Battery life was also improved to 12 hours for the tablet alone and 18 hours when attached to the dock.

As for pricing, the 32GB model will retail for $499 in the US and $599 for the 64GB. I expect the same Php22k price point (just like the old Transformer) for the 32GB when it hits the Philippines.

  1. Seriously,I want this for my graduation gift. I hope this would be a game changer.

  2. Oi! This will make a cool xmas gift… for myself. Weeeeeeee!

  3. Wow! first quadcore in a tablet! with the affordable price range.. ^^

  4. Goodbye overpriced and accessory-totting Galaxy Tab 10.1… Clearly, with the longer batt life, microSD slot, HDMI input, and lower price tag (things that are lacking in Sammy), this is the better option. Sana may magregalo… haha.

  5. wow, Transformer? Prime?

  6. Whoa!

    this is like SUPER!

    i really want one!

i’ll ask again what Paulo did,can we install Windows 7 instead of the Android?

this will make it more interesting.

but i swear, this is really a WINNER! XD

    • Nope YOU CANNOT.. ARM processor nito.. hindi pwede windows 7…

maybe windows 8 sa future, kung mahahack.. but im sure by that time, meron ng mas mabibilis na processor at mas magandang tablet ang asus for win8

    • thanks for the info! XD

i guess the Prime is fab as it is.

      i haven’t tried the Android tabs…

im really looking for my first, and the monotony of my idevices, sometimes, nevermind.

i just hope a very decent office app is available! XD

  7. waaaaaaaaaaa hindi pa rin 3G bakit nmn ganun…
    I’LL STILL WAIT!

  8. This is the type of device perfect for Windows 8!

  9. i think it’s more that Php22K…look at the specs…Tegra 3..QuadCore Processor…

  10. Ganun? For sure ibabagsak nila presyo nitong 101. Kainis naman! First tablet ko ang Transformer and grabe sa ganda at bilis, pero mas gusto ko yang nasa taas paano to?

    • yup 300$ na lang for the old transformer.

  11. this is worth the upgrade. come to me transformer prime!

  12. Not satisfied sa RAM, no SIM slot. hays. Wait ko nlng next version, 6-8 mos from now, baka pede n din Win 8.

For the specs, battery life, and price, taob n mga galaxy tab at ipads. Sana di ako matempt bumili this christmas. Waaaa!! :)

  14. ..i want that to receive in my debut
i think i will be cool if i have it

  15. available na ba dito phil.? Saan makakabili nito?

  16. Hindi magbabago kanta ko. Forever anti-Apple na toits! Hoy! Hahahaha – bulag talaga kayo!

  17. Hi Migs!

I have been waiting for this ever since I read your post about the transformer prime. Do you have any idea when it would be released in the Philippines?

I just bought a galaxy note and found out that android is for me. My partner bought an Ipad2 and it’s kinda a disappointment IMO.

So i am torn between the transformer prime or samsung 10.1

    TIA

  19. is it available now in the Philippine market? If so, for how much is it sold when with the dock? and how much if without the dock? Where can I buy it?

  20. I saw the transformer prime featured in future perfect of ANC hosted by tony velasquez and I am truly amazed by this tablet. I am holding off my plan of buying galaxy tab p7500 with this gadget. The guest ASUS spokesperson told that it will be available next month February 2012 with an SRP of 33k php

  21. ph.asus.com says it comes with Android 4.0 (ICS), not honeycomb. Did they change it back to Android 3.2 (HC)?

  22. can anyone pls tell me where in manila i can buy a 64gb model of this?
