HP UMPC 2133: Now that’s an ultraportable!

There’s some leaked images and numbers on a supposedly new UMPC from HP. The HP Compaq 2133 is small, lightweight and carries a Linux flavor. I say it’s a sweet cross between a MacBook Air and an Asus Eee PC.

Pictures taken from Engadget:

Since it has a smaller form factor, the display size is 8.9-inch (1366×766 WXGA). It weighs only 1.13kg (around 2.5lbs) compared to the MacBook Air which is 3lbs and the Asus Eee PC which is 2lbs.

It carries an ExpressCard slot for a 3G modem, Wireless LAN, a built-in webcam, standard LAN ports and an option for SSD drive. It comes with Linux pre-installed or you can also have Windows Vista. Not bad at all. There’s no pricing mentioned or even processor speeds but if HP can slap it with an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz or higher, I’m sold.

  1. Hmm… if this will be priced closer to Eee, then I can say it already “worth the wait”.

  2. Any idea as to what flavor of Linux is pre-installed?

I would be thrilled if it has the Ubuntu Gutsy with Compiz Fusion enabled.

  3. Seems the market is headed this way, combining light weight laptops, linux, and good specs. Now if only they can design a high end video card to fit in one of these. Crysis on eeePC anyone?

  4. Haha, yeah, Crysis on Eee and Linux!

Yep, GNU/Linux is gaining grounds in the Desktop arena, Microsoft will be hurt this year because of GNU/Linux coming to desktops and laptops, with (X/K)Ubuntu leading the way.

That’s a huge plus to the FLOSS Community.
At least we finally hit the giant ;)

  5. With core2duo plus 2gb ram and sub 40k price, I’ll buy one right this instant

  6. Please let this be close to the Eee’s price. I swear I’ll ditch my Eee for this.

  7. Need to KNOW the price!!!

Can’t sleep at night, “WHAT’S THE PRICE?!”.
