Sony revamps Tablet S with Tegra 3 chip

Almost a year ago, Sony unveiled their tablet contender in the form of Tablet S which didn’t receive the same reception as its rival. This year it’s rumored that the Japanese company will have a go at it again, but this time they’ve brought in the big guns.

Dubbed as Tablet S 2nd Generation, the rumored tablet is said to take the same “wedged” form of its older brother, only a tad lighter and way thinner, 42% thinner to be exact. From 10.1mm, the next tablet is believed to sport an 8.8mm body.

Besides boasting a trimmed body, the tablet’s snapper is also rumored to be improved from 5MP (rear) and VGA (Front) to 8MP and 1MP. Some of the other notable improvements on this alleged tablet are ICS or JB out of the box, 64GB variant, Bluetooth 3.0 and 6000mAh.

But the biggest bump in this slate may probably be its processor. Having a notorious reputation of putting a generation late processors on their mobile devices, Sony is trying to change that by putting an NVidia Tegra3 quad-core processor on the rumored tablet. There’s no word which Tegra3 will power the Tablet S 2nd Gen, so it’s still uncertain if Sony would break their curse.

Editor’s Note: We’ve talked to a local rep from Sony and asked why the planned release of the 1st Tablet S was not pushed thru last quarter as planned and they confirmed it’s because they feel it’s already too late for the market to accept it. They will be definitely be pushing for the 2nd generation to be launched later this year. Based on our recent conversations, we believe the new Sony Tablet S will be officially unveiled during IFA in Berlin, Germany this month (August 31 – September 5). – Yuga

      very funny dude,
lets see if you get 42% for these facts,
“…From 10.1mm, the next tablet is believed to sport an 8.8mm body.”

the blogger based that 42% on the wrong fact,
      see the picture yourself,
      hahaha,

Wrong choice of words to follow I supposed. Haha.
Judging from the image of this post, I think the 42% thinner is pointing to the thickest part. From 20+ mm down to 11+ mm.

can an ipad survive from a splash of water??
      its $400-450 for 16GB

    • Avatar for dTech dTech says:

It won’t, but i don’t think I’d use it somewhere there’s water around where I may accidentally drop it. You should see every aspect of each gadget, so u can see why Sony’s is not as good as Apple’s. Designwise, Sony have better design execution than any Android out there, can’t totally say it’s better than Apple’s, maybe competitive enough or of the same level.

Sony’s label has a tag price beside their hardware products… haha! So kung pasosyal, surely would get that.

Low cost version naman ng Tegra3 yung sa Nexus 7. Alam ko may three variants ang tegra 3 soc. Based on rumors, 400 usd entry price point nito (16GB).

Great looking device with cool peripherals. I hope it sells well against its rivals which are: the iPad, the hoard of more accessible Galaxy tablets, the upcoming and budget-friendly Nexus 7. I have seen the slides of this tab and what not to like are: proprietary connector instead of a microUSB. Lack of a built in micro HDMI port. As a tablet, I hope it comes w/ a 2GB RAM.

Oh, Sony. Late as usual. That’s why your devices suck.

Sony is a really good product, but most of the time, their brand is somewhat a luxury to other people equivalent to high price range. If they made their price competitive enough, maybe people would prefer over others…like they always say, “if the price is right!”
