VLC, the famed free and open source media player, has outed a new updated called the VLC 3.0 ‘Vetinari’ which adds support for Chromecast, as well as 4K and 8K playback.
The Vetinari update now supports 10bits, HDR, 360 video and 3D audio, up to Ambisoncics 3rd order. It allows audio passthrough for HD video codecs. It can now Chromecast videos, even in formats that aren’t natively supported by VLC. Apart from that, it can play Blu-Ray menus: BD-J, HD DVD (.evo) files, and supports browsing of local network drives and NAS.
