Poll: What anti-virus software you got running?

Anybody here still remembers that ThunderByte antivirus from late 90s? It was one of the most powerful of the batch back then because it had heuristic features that can identify and cure even unknown viruses. Our poll for the week is to survey which anti-virus programs people are using nowadays.

On top of my head, I can easily point to AVG, Avast, Nod32, Kaspersky, F-Secure. And then, the more popular commercial ones like Norton, McAfee, PC-cillin and Sophos.

So which one of these you got installed and running on your PC. Please go ahead to the Polls section to submit your feedback.

  1. I’ve got ESET NOD32, simply the best IMO. I once had AVG Free but it had so many false positive detections.

  2. Follow up: Of course, if you’re on Mac, you obviously don’t need one, hehe.

  3. But there are malware that specifically target Macs.

  4. I use Kaspersky AV.

Kaspersky is a memory hog, but its worth it.

  5. avast and avg in combo plus spybot, assuming you got windows defender as well should be good enough.

  6. Hmm I can’t vote… someone already voted NOD32 for me hehehe (the magic of dynamic IP).

    Anyway, Eset’s NOD32 FTW! (For-the-Win)

NOD32 is very gamer and office friendly. It will not slow down your gaming and office work to a snail like what Sophos and Norton does, even at maximum settings.

And besides, NOD32 is being used by M$ hehehe… that alone shows us the power and effectiveness of NOD32. That alone also backs-up the claims of NOD32 as being the “best” and “#1” in many areas of an Anti-Virus versus the rest of the market (Proprietary or FLOSS).

    Hands-down – Eset’s NOD32!

  7. Anyone using AntiVir (freeav.com)? I’ve been using it since 2002 on my Windows machine.

  8. I have Bit Defender now planning to switch to NOD 32 or Sophos

  9. AVG here and Hazard Shield. These are free utilities that are working good for me.

  10. I’ve tried the other AVs mentioned but I always came back to Avira’s Classic AntiVir because it’s light on the system, detects viruses well, and best of all, it’s free.

  11. im using Anti Virus Shield
    and Avast.

but still looking for other options

  12. Antivir and Avira are the same right?

Yes, i use it combo with windows defender….

  13. The AVG votes are more likely AVG Free, which is not as effective as the paid version, according to first-hand AVG Free and AVG Paid users I talked to (some iCafes).

  14. I use Avira PE. But if I can afford it, I’d still go for PC-cillin.

  15. at our office we used avg because this is free and for the spyware I myself used spywaredoctor… last week I encountered virus on my pc but fixed by both…

  16. i almost forgot… I also used bitdefender… guess you taught that i used 2 anti virus… actually the answer is yes…

  17. AVG Free edition plus good old common sense

  18. I’ve got an up-to-date version of eSET Nod32 – Smart Security. ;-)

  19. I’ve got Zonealarm Security Suite for my windows xp.. its antivirus engine is that of Kaspersky. I think they licensed it or something.. Plus it has the full blown firewall since it’s the suite.. Only problem is, it’s a memory hog. But it’s nothing my PC can’t handle.. ^_^

  20. I don’t use an antivirus on our home PC yet I don’t get viruses.

I use a hardcore software and hardware firewall; they’re effective.

I understand that firewalls are not meant to kill viruses; weird!

  21. hmmmmm.. i used nod32 before but was not that comfortable with it…

then tried BitDefender 10… it was OK until my key got Blacklisted.. XD

now im using Kaspersky and its working really well.. :D

  22. Symantec Antivirus corporate Edition. Same scanning engine found on Symantec’s home AV Norton but without the bloatware and the memory hog. No annual license renewal to boot.

  23. I use avast! AV and combine that with COMODO Firewall Pro – both freeware. I haven’t had any problems with viruses or trojans since I installed them.

  24. nod32 user here, simple, non-obtrusive, effective…

  25. I’m loving Avast Home edition as it allows me to customize the installation by stopping modules and setting rules.

  26. I’ve got Avira AntiVir. Better than AVG, in my opinion. c:

  27. my only problem with eset smart security (nod32) is that my browsing really slows down everytime i’m downloading something. prolly have to do with their firewall. this doesnt happen when i’m using symantec/norton or bit defender

  28. Kaspersky. Never had a problem and very easy to use.

  29. using mcafee virusscan enterprise 8.7i patch3.

  30. We provide access to the best and most diverse security software program, proving that security programs DON’T need to be expensive. SKY Security is easy-to-use, effective and a great way to protect your PC from the harmful viruses and spyware that can destroy your system.
