TextLinkAds Banking Nightmares

The first one to report this issue was Migs when he mentioned that his bank called him up to return his TLA cheque. It was stamped “Retun to Maker“. He was charged $10 for the processing.

Then just now, Annalyn Jusay called me up frustrated that her last 2 TLA cheques also bounced. Her local bank told her that her dollar account has been deducted $50 for the processing of the “Return to Maker” cheques.

I haven’t been informed by my bank if mine cheques also suffered the same fate but don’t worry much. This could just be some accounting errors.

Remember last week’s announcement that TextLinkAds was bought by MediaWhiz. They probably switched corporate bank accounts or something. Remember that it takes around 20 to 25 days to clear international cheques here in the Philippines so I guess TLA thought all the previous month’s (Sept.) payouts have been encashed already.

If this happened to you, just email Patrick Gavin (President of TLA) and tell him about your problem. They’ll re-issue your cheques right away. Migs told me he requested that his last month and this month’s payouts to be put on hold until the bank issues cleared out. Also, since the problem is on their end, you can mention the charges you incurred because of the bounced cheques. They might re-imburse you for that too.

  1. more the reason to push paypal to allow philppine paypal accounts to receive payments.

  2. paypal had no problems . Like Glo said, Paypal Philippines should accept payments already.

  3. kelan ba yan mangyayari sa paypal dito. para niyo na pong awa…:-((

  4. I don’t have a dollar account and I use our local town money changer to convert my TLA checks directly to Philippine currency.

I just hope they don’t have problems with the TLA checks I converted tru them.

  5. All this makes me think: the rise of individual netrepreneurs runs contrary to the interests of the IT sweatshops that bribe our government.

That’s why our government will never back individual netrepreneurs. They have no incentive to remove stumbling blocks like high banking fees and the lack of PayPal.

  6. Hey guys/gals, i guess this is out of topic. anyway, just a question, when tax time come do you have to declare blog income with BIR or just let BIR do their thing and pay later if ever they found out that your earning $$$. i wanted to transfer pinay.org blog to someone their in RP to do all the blogging that’s why im askin’
    ty!

  7. RE: tax
yeas i guess bloggers (like me) should file sooner before later when the BIR is breathing down your neck. and yes for the record, i will file and pay taxes come tax time. buti na yung “Safe”. ;-)

  8. Mike, I don’t think there is a conspiracy theory between the BPO operators or “IT Sweatshops” and the government, against the netrepreneurs.

The banking fees and PayPal issues are problems with trust and regulation in the banking sector and they affect all companies big and small.

  9. I’m not saying there’s a conspiracy, Migs. I’m saying our government has no incentive to help remove the obstacles.

  10. Once we get full Paypal support, I might shift my entries to something like Paypal Nightmares? hehehe

  11. Hi, I’m a TLA publisher, live in Indonesia. So far from our website network I should around more than 1K/month (as written on my TLA account), but never got cashed.

They claimed that some check was sent to me, but I never received it here. Also some of TLA publisher in my country got their check rejected by TLA’s bank when they try to cash it thrugh our local bank.

Today I’ll try to email Patrick Gavin to see what can he do to solve this problem.
Thanks for mention the Patrick’s email on your post.
