Rumor: Sony Xperia Z Google Edition in the works

There’s seems to be a trend building up right now folks, one that involves flagship handsets from various well-known companies being infused with Vanilla Android. Samsung has spearheaded the pact with the SGS4, then followed by HTC with the One and now the latest candidate is Sony’s glass-backed flag bearer, the Xperia Z.

According to Android Central, the Xperia Z running on stock Android will be sold on Google Play Store, but they didn’t include the pricing. Moreover, the site is uncertain whether the “Google-fied” handset will be available outside of the US.

Another thing they pointed out is how the Vanilla Android implementation on the Xperia Z will affect some of the features of the said handset. Of course, running on stock Android version has its perks like faster firmware updates, but that would also mean that the Xperia Z will lose some of its distinct features like Mobile Bravia Engine and its proprietary camera apps which are not included on Google’s home-brewed OS.

Without an official announcement from either Google or Sony, things are still up in the air right now. But if this speculation turns out to be true, it’ll be interesting to see how these three marquee handsets stack up against each other as each are on the same playing field in terms of the software. So, which Google Edition handset is it going to be folks? Is it the SGS4, the HTC One or Xperia Z?

  1. Now the NEXPERIA is coming inside the house! Pero Lenovo man pa rin ako!

    • Dude Lenovo isnt even getting any popular. It doesnt even have a great flagship phone to join the clash.

    • dre, lenovo k900, 2ghz dual core intel processor, antutu benchmark higher than samsung s4 , ngaun sabhn mo kung wala silang flagship phone na pantapat sa s4? i think s4 is the fastest phone with ARM its quad core, compare mo nalang sa dual core 2ghz ng intel, talo ang s4.. getz? make some research

    • @jm mabilis nga, onting apps lang nmn compatible. booom! research2 dn pag may time.

    • @jm – I know the k900 and I dont think its a good phone. Let alone call it a smartphone. It may beat the s4 in benchmarks but can you just look at its dimensions? I think its bigger than the note2. It doesnt even have LTE. It only has HSPA+ and you know how freaking slow that is?

Actually benchmarks is just a part of the story. Companies can modify the phones to achieve their target marks.

I don’t think I’m the one whos not doing researh. SHEEEESH!

    • I agree with XTN.. Actually wala naman epekto ung benchmark eh. Their just numbers

-jm, did you really do the research? I find it funny you just compared s4 and lenovo k900 cpu…well sorry to tell you, its not all about the processor its about what the phone can give you. and about the antutu benchmark, not all s4 has the same score. i bet you just look at 1 website which shows the higher? right now i am searching some infos on the net which you suggested to another reply here. lenovo got a 25827 higher than the s4. but it came from one website. to tell you this, there are some s4 fones even reaching 30k scores. so your point is baseless. and one thing for sure, you dont own the s4 that is why you were telling all these stuffs.

    P.S

I own both of these, and they are great phones. but the only thing I like on the lenovo is the screen. nothing more compare to S4.except I had experience some glitches on my s4. lets go back to the research thing you suggest.

hmm I dont think I need that coz I have it both.

    my antutu benchmark scores:

    GS4(INT’L VERSION)=29856
    lenovo k900= 24875

    nuff said.outta here!
