Viber for BlackBerry is here!

Listen to article

So here you go — starting yesterday, Viber for BlackBerry is now available in the App World. It took them some time but it’s finally here for BB users.

The version for the BB app still has limited features though:

Viber lets you send text and photo messages, anywhere in the world (Free calls coming soon as well). All you need is a 3G or WiFi connection, and friends who get Viber too.

I started using Viber on the iPhone and my Android phones last March when I was on a month-long trip to Europe. Been using it ever since especially when I am out of the country and lookign for alternatives to SMS and voice roaming.

You can grab it here.

Hat tip Ian Seballe.

Hi again,

We’ve been receiving recently complaints from our users in India, specifically from the following networks:

– BSNL (Jammu & Kashmir)
– Aircel (Jammu & Kashmir)
– Reliance Telecom (Jammu & Kashmir)
– Vodafone (Jammu & Kashmir)

Andit seems like those networks started blocking Viber.

Does anyone have any information on this matter? Is there any way to contact those cellular companies and find it out?

Best regards,

@sqUaLL –

Have you tried looking for it in AppWorld?

@Kunwar –

This is a known issue, and we’re hoping to fix it in our upcoming update. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience, and we’d appreciate if you could get back to us after installing our next update and report whether or not the problem has been fixed :)

Thank you!

I am using viber on my blackberry curve 9360 running on os 7.1.0.794 in India on vodafone. I am not able to make free calls or msg when I am on wifi. It shows internet connection is required to complete this action. Check your connection and try again. My wifi is working fine and I am able browse and download apps from blackberry world. it works on mobile data only. Please help me out if I am missing any settings. How to make my viber work on wifi. I have un-installed and re-installed it twice but I am facing the same problem.

Thanks & Regards.

Hi,
Blackberry 8520 should be compatible with Viber.

What error message specifically are you getting? What country are you located in?

Hi! Just want to be exact with this, can viber be used with globe’s BB Social?

AFAIK, it depends on Globe. From their site, they’re pretty specific on what is included in their BB Social plan. I think you better ask them directly.

I’m on their 599 BB Max plan, so its not a problem. =)

Btw, there’s no calls yet on Viber for BB. Just messages.

Hi. Im a sun post paid user. Viber says that messages may use your data plan. And i have read that network charges may apply. Does using viber adds on my bill? I cant use it with wifi only, my mobile data has to be turned on. Does this add on my bill? Pls answer. Thnks.

hi @veehnus –

Viber should not be affected at all by changing SIM cards – it should still function normally, with an ID similar to the original number with which you registered in the first place.

If you want, you may register anew, and this action will refresh your Viber ID to be your new number.

Why is my viber for blackberry working eventhough im not in a wifi zone?

Viber · 14 years ago

Hi @Kukai,

Viber can work on either 3G (cellular network) or WiFi :)

So even if you’re not connected to WiFi, your phone may be connected to the cellular network, and that’s why apps like Viber can still work fine.

@V.V.RAJA –

Hi,
Your device should be fully compatible with Viber. If you can’t download it from AppWorld normally, then please try this direct link to the application file in our official HelpDesk:

If this still doesn’t work, please let me know.

Playbook is running an OS version that’s very different from the current OS version for BB phones. We plan to look into it in the future, alongside our development for OS10, but we still don’t have specific release plans.

We invite you to follow us on our Facebook page for the latest news and updates on that :)

And you expect people to go out of the country just to use it?

This is what I really don’t get. How long will it take before you people realize the limitations of this OS (WP7)?

FR
frenchy · 14 years ago

It is also a useful and cheaper alternative to stay in touch with family and friends abroad thru mobile phones. It’s easier to use than Skype, IMO.

Boss Yuga not only for BB, Viber Beta is now available for Windows Phones.

https://www.facebook.com/viber/posts/400507053323472

I was keeping my Viber off, i use Whatsapp all the times since it was available in almost all platforms (android, ios, nokia and BB)

Now that Viber has more platforms i might use it daily now. I just wanna ask about the power consumption of Viber on Android, is it minimal or is it a hog? (keeping it on standby that is)
