Google has begun rolling out major quality of life (QoL) updates to its AI Mode in Search. Users can now search using images and voice in addition to the traditional means of text. In addition, users can even refine searches with follow-up prompts like ‘is the pair of jeans available in X size?’ Search is also now fully multimodal, which means uploading or capturing photos is now a way to start a query. The new update for AI Mode in Search is currently available in English for users in the US. Google is expanding Personal Intelligence to AI Mode in Google Search. Starting today, Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers can opt in to securely connect Gmail and Google Photos to AI Mode. According to Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, the update aims to make Search more personal by using context such as emails, photos and past activity to generate more relevant answers. Once enabled, AI Mode can reference items like travel bookings, shopping habits or personal memories to deliver customized recommendations for trips, shopping and everyday queries.
