Google has confirmed that AirDrop-style sharing between Android and Apple devices will soon be available on more Android phones, not just Pixel models. During a press briefing, Eric Kay, Google’s vice president of engineering for Android, said that support for Quick Share with Apple’s AirDrop will expand to “a lot more” Android devices this year. This means users will soon be able to send files directly between Android phones and iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks without using cables or third-party apps. Quick Share, Android’s wireless file-sharing tool, was updated last year to work with Apple’s AirDrop. Google says it spent time making sure the system works smoothly across Apple devices before bringing it to more Android brands. Alongside file sharing, Google is also working with Apple to make switching from an iPhone to an Android phone easier. Early testing of these improvements was spotted in Android Canary builds late last year. The European Commission is taking aim at Apple’s closed ecosystem with a new document demanding "effective interoperability" between iOS, Android, and other platforms.
