Google has started rolling out Android’s new Desktop Mode for Pixel phones, allowing users to connect their device to an external monitor and use it like a desktop computer. In Desktop Mode, apps can open in multiple windows, similar to how they work on a laptop or PC. Desktop Mode is available on Pixel 8 devices and newer models, including foldable Pixel phones, as long as they support USB DisplayPort. Google is reportedly working on a new feature for Android that could bring a desktop-like experience to your phone. Currently, Samsung’s DeX mode is the only Android solution offering a polished desktop interface, but Google’s upcoming Desktop Mode aims to change that. The Pixel’s Desktop Mode will include a taskbar, and swiping down from the top will show expanded Quick Settings, with options on the left and notifications on the right. It’s more probable that Desktop Mode will make its debut in Android 17, which will also feature the revamped ‘Material Expressive UI.’ Watch the first look demo below.
