Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman—who has a reliable track record on everything Apple—says that Apple is working on a new HomePod that combines Apple TV functions, and a FaceTime camera in a speaker vessel. Gurman noted in his Power On newsletter Q&A that he “absolutely” thinks that a new HomePod is brewing that will likely be “at the center of Apple’s approach” to home amenities. Apple previously discontinued the original high-end HomePod in March 2021, while its predecessor, HomePod mini launched in 2020 gained more popularity due to its lower pricing. Thus, Gurman suggests that it wouldn’t be surprising Apple launches new version of HomePod mini with such integrated features. Apple has marked a date for the arrival of its entry to the smart speaker space that is currently dominated by Google and Amazon, the HomePod. The user can use Siri on the HomePod to do things such as send messages, set timers and reminders, check for weather, news, and sports updates, and stream music from an Apple Music subscription. When using Apple Music with the HomePod, users are able to do all the usual things like asking for specific songs to be played, but it has a little more to offer.
