Apple tariffs

A report from the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) broke down how the tariffs imposed by US President Trump affected production for the iPhone 16 Pro. The total Bill of Materials (BoM) pre-tariffs was USD 549.73 (PHP 31,468.40) with assembly and testing rounding this up to USD 580 (~PHP 33,000). WSJ has calculated that the tariffs will impact production with the BoM going up to USD 847 (~PHP 48,000). Apple has production in China and India, with tariffs at 34% and 26% for both countries, respectively. The question here is if Apple’s profit margin could absorb the damages. Apple has revealed that the iPhone 12 and 12 mini now come in the color Purple. As per Apple, the new finish complements the beautiful flat-edge design of the iPhone 12. Moreover, the company also revealed that both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini in Purple ship with the latest iOS 14.5, which features the ability to unlock iPhone with Apple Watch while wearing a face mask, an enhanced Apple Podcasts app with a redesigned show and episode pages, and a Search tab, as well as new emoji.
