PLDT is proud to announce that its Home Fibr service has reached 2.5-million residents from Ilocos Norte down to South Cotabato province making it the widest fiber network coverage in the country. The PLDT Group has over 140,000 kilometers of fiber optics cables that caters to the demand of Filipinos for a faster and more reliable high-speed broadband service. While in Mindanao, fiber lines are available in Cotabato, Davao, General Santos City, Koronadal, and Zamboanga. Earlier today, Globe Telecom has launched its fiberization of the world's oldest Chinatown that will allow residents and businesses to enjoy up to 1Gbps of internet speeds. In partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of the City of Manila, the telco was able to begin its rollout of fiber optic cables making Binondo as the 1st Globe Connected District. Apart from fiber optics, the telco will also roll out small cell technology around the district to expand the coverage and capacity of their 3G and LTE network. This project of Globe is the pilot rollout of fiber broadband across the country wherein they envision to deploy an 'internet super highway' to 20,000 barangays by the year 2020 for 2 million homes. Even until today, fiber roll-out in key cities is a bit insufficient to reach every home in the area.
