Globe's mobile payment service, GCash, has assisted the Philippine National Police (PNP) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to arrest an online scammer on Facebook. Last Thursday, the NBI and PNP have tracked down a fake online seller with GCash. Commuters using the EDSA Busway can now pay their fares using GCash, as cashless payments have officially been rolled out across selected busway units. The new option allows passengers to pay via QR code using GCash SoundPay, with the fare amount manually entered by the conductor based on travel distance. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) launched the payment method at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange as part of the government’s Automatic Fare Collection System proof of concept. The initiative aims to modernize public transport payments while giving commuters faster and more flexible ways to pay. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan said the system benefits both passengers and operators by ensuring exact fare payments and direct remittance to bus companies. The setup also reduces cash handling and supports the broader push for standardized digital payments in public transportation.
